Life seems to be improving on some level.  Although I have been in Chicago for over 3 months, I am just now staring to make friends.  The weather, as I said yesterday, is beginning to get a bit too warm for my tastes though.

Music pick of the day:  Sonny Sharrock's Ask the Ages (Axiom, 1991) Loud grinding guitars from Sharrock, Pharoah Sandersí screaching sax, booming drums from Elvin Jones, solid, if not particularly impressive, bass work form Charnett Moffett, and a gust appearance by Bill Laswell - this is free jazz the way it was meant to be played and yet my guess is also that rock fans will find this easier to digest than much of the genre.  The group, as a whole, produces solid and relatively consistent sonic blasts that should appeal to those more accustomed to traditional pop style song writing.  Reed more about the disc at http://www.stormpages.com/micahth/dp/dec99/top201990sdp.html#1.

Check out photos from the new Planet of the Apes movie and after dong that look into the new Lord of the Rings movies that are set to come out soon. It has been at least 9 years since I was excited about a single big Hollywood blockbuster but now there are two that I want to see coming out this summer.  I canít say that I think either of them are going to be particularly good -I'm doubtful about both- but my fingers are crossed and my eyes are anxious for opening day.

You should read Mike Males' editorial on school shootings that was recently posted on Bad Subjects.  Choice quote; ěit would be astounding if shootings never took place in American schools; the mystery is that they're so few.î

I also recommend reading the coverage of the recent anti-Summit of Americas protests that has been put together by various Independent Media Centers.

Hope people are reading this and do not hesitate to email me.
